The Covid-19 pandemic isn’t over, folks. Certainly not here in Oregon, where cases continue to spike and multiple counties were moved to the extreme risk transmission level in the past week by the Oregon Health Authority. Because of that, we’re only highlighting a few events this weekend -- ones that allow for safe social distancing.
This week, there’s a Porchfest music series in Milwaukie, an outdoor craft market with live music and a chance to learn about how artists have weathered the pandemic. Check them out below and be sure to SHARE this roundup with the art-lovers in your life.
Have a safe and fun weekend, Curbsiders.
Milwaukie Porchfest - Free
Friday May 7 - 6 pm to 8 pm
It’s the first weekend of Milwaukie’s new and annual Porchfest celebration. Not only will this weekend feature music played from neighborhood porches, it will include variety shows, dancers and whatever other kind of art the good people of Milwaukie feel like dishing out. In these times where indoor concerts aren’t possible, community outdoor concert series like this are an excellent opportunity to see some live art. If you can’t make this weekend, check it out some other Friday in May.
Asian Celebration: Night Market
Friday, May 7 - 4 pm to 10 pm
Downtown Park Blocks - Eugene, OR
Usually a popular indoor event at the Lane Events Center, this annual showcase is moving outdoors this year, turning downtown Eugene into a celebration of Asian cultures and crafts. There will be great food, artisanal goods and live performances, to name just a few. Come out and celebrate the Year of the Ox with this outdoor gathering of art and small businesses.
John N’ Jess at Oregon Crafters Market
Sunday, May 9 - 2:30 pm to 5 pm
The Oregon Crafters Market has been going on for years in scenic Silverton, where local artisans show off their hand-crafted goods and people from all over the Willamette Valley come to support small businesses. There’s also live music, with this weekend’s artists including the duo of John N’ Jess.
State of the Arts In COVID
Sunday, May 9 - 1 pm to 2:30 pm
Online Event (Portland, OR)
Not only is this an event that will delve into how artists have struggled during the pandemic, it’s also an all-star panel of women artists from Oregon. There will be discussions by artists and arts directors from many backgrounds and disciplines, speaking about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the community in many ways. It’s not all doom and gloom, though, the seminar will also include showcases of art and ways that local communities can join together to keep creativity alive.
